Book Printing Services

When you think of a printed book, you typically think of one that is perfect bound. We have state-of-the-art perfect binding equipment for either EVA or PUR glue. PUR glue is usually preferable, because it is tougher than EVA glue. It is almost impossible to pull apart, does not come apart in either very hot or very cold weather, and the book will lay flat with this glue.

However, there are some circumstances where we can’t use PUR glue, so we also have a perfect binding machine that uses EVA glue. We use EVA glue when the order is a rush and needs to be shipped the same day. PUR glue needs to dry overnight before the book can be trimmed and shipped. EVA glue also needs to be used when the book is very, very thin (just a few inside pages) or the finished size of the book is very small.

But books can also be bound in other ways. We can also bind books with plastic coil, saddle stitch, or wire-o binding. Often the option you choose will depend on the use of the book. For purposes of this article, we will talk about perfect bound books, since other books in our book printing ideas series cover the other types of book binding.

Even with state-of-the- art equipment, Publishing Xpress provides a low cost, efficient way to get your book printing quickly. Our minimum print size is only 25 copies, our printing costs are low, turnaround times are fast (4-6 business days is our standard turnaround with options of 3, 2, 1, and same day service for an additional charge), customer service is outstanding, and we even offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee.

Book Printing Tips

Writing a book is a significant accomplishment, one that not many people achieve. But once the book is written, there is still a lot of work to be done. Publishing Xpress comes in when the book is written, edited, layed out, and ready to print. Before you get to the final step of contacting us for book printing, keep these tips in mind:

  • The first impression any potential reader is going to have about your book is going to come from the cover. Sure, we’ve all heard the saying, “Don’t judge a book by its cover.” But that’s easier said than done. Spend a significant amount of time ensuring that your cover is a great representation of your book. You’ll find all kinds of tips on the internet about designing your cover. For instance, check out this article with 30 striking book cover ideas.
Or you can have Publishing Xpress design your book cover. For only $100, our team of designers will get the information you want on your cover along with your ISBN and any graphics. They will then design a cover based on your vision. You’ll get two rounds of changes to tweak the cover. Any further changes are only $25 per round. It’s a great deal to get an outstanding cover. For more information, check out our cover design page. That page also has some great tips if you want to design your own cover.
  • Once you have the cover nailed, you need to concentrate on the inside layout. In this age of self-published books, we read a lot of books with not-so-great design. Don’t let your book be one of those! Before you start laying out your book, get a collection of books whose layout really appeals to you. You don’t have to copy them exactly, but go through them and determine what you find appealing.
How are the margins in the book? You don’t want the copy too tight, but you also don’t want to leave huge margins on the page, making it look like you don’t have much to say. What fonts and font size appeals to you? Do you like paragraphs indented or flush left? Is the name of the book and chapter title at the top of the page? What does the title page of each chapter look like? You want your book to look professional, so take tips from books that look professional.
  • Paper selection is very important. For the cover of perfect bound books, we offer 80# and 100# cover stock. We strongly recommend also getting lamination on the covers. Gloss lamination really makes the colors pop, while soft-touch lamination offers a very velvety feel. Inside pages can range from 60# uncoated to 100# gloss or matte paper stock. We recommend ordering our free sample package.
Not only do we send samples of our four binding styles (perfect bound, plastic coil, saddle stitch, and wire-o), but our plastic coil book has samples of all of our paper stocks and gloss and soft-tough lamination. May people find the package very helpful when making printing decisions for their book.
